Review of LUCK IS NO LADY by Amy Sandas

REVIEW

This is the first book I’ve read by author Amy Sandas and to be honest, the main reason I chose to request an ARC copy of Luck is No Lady was because of the fantastic cover! How can you not be intrigued by a scene of seduction taking place on top of a billiards table? I seriously had to know the story behind THAT! Seriously…a billiards table! (Massive kudos to the cover artist!)

I am happy to report, that this was NOT a case of putting “lipstick on a pig”, because the story behind that marvelous cover was in a word…PERFECTION!

From the charming “meet cute” scene, (In which our hero and heroine both find themselves hiding from those who wish to tarnish their “virtue”) that is both humorous and quietly seductive, to the slow burn of attraction that grows alongside the strengthening bonds of an unlikely friendship, Emma and Roderick’s story touches on everything we love to find inside the pages of a great historical romance.

Add in a cast of secondary characters that are as vividly written as the leads, a reluctant villain who you can’t help but imagine being thrust into the role of romantic hero at some point in the future and a well-crafted ending that is simply the cherry on top of an already delicious desert.

(In fact, I had to go back for a second helping by reading their story all over again before writing this review…or at least that was my excuse. 😉 )

Needless to say I will be looking for more of Ms. Sandas previous work to add to my library and cannot wait to read the rest of the titles in this series as soon as they become available!

"You should not have kissed me," she replied breathlessly. "I do a lot of things I shouldn't. It does not mean I won't do them again."

Gently bred Emma Chadwick always assumed she'd live and die the daughter of a gentleman. But when her father's death reveals a world of staggering debt and dangerous moneylenders, she must risk her good name and put her talent for mathematics to use, taking a position as bookkeeper at London's most notorious gambling hell. Surrounded by vice and corruption on all sides, it is imperative no one discovers Emma's shameful secret or her reputation-and her life-will be ruined.

But Roderick Bentley, the hell's sinfully wealthy owner, awakens a hunger Emma cannot deny. Drawn deep into an underworld of high stakes gambling and reckless overindulgence, she soon discovers that in order to win the love of a ruthless scoundrel, she will have to play the game...and give in to the pleasure of falling from grace.

"An engaging and unusual historical romance. Beautifully sensual love scenes are woven into this intriguing romance."-Night Owl Romance, TOP PICK on Reckless Viscount Fallen Ladies: Luck is No Lady No More a Lady No Kind of Lady
